I'm Damiano Derin, a ceramic artist working from a small studio in Portugal. Every piece here starts the same way: a lump of clay, shaped entirely by hand — no wheel unless the form calls for one, no molds, no editions. I make one-off sculptural and functional pieces, from small collectible objects to larger commissioned work for homes and interiors.
Each piece is hand-built or thrown in clay, left to dry, then bisque-fired before I mix and apply the glaze and fire it a second time. The glaze is where control ends and the kiln takes over — heat, oxygen and chance decide exactly how a colour breaks, pools or crackles, which is why no two pieces ever come out quite the same, even within the same series. I don't measure pieces precisely before or after firing; what you see in the photos is what you get.
